How to measure a floor plan

    Set the scale

    Click the two ends of a line whose real length you already know. Any dimension already printed on the plan works. Type that length in, and every other measurement follows from it.

    Measure anything

    Click the two ends of any wall or cabinet run. Hold Shift to lock the line perfectly horizontal or vertical. Each result shows in metres and running feet, with a running total.

Why running feet?

Custom cabinetry in Malaysia is priced per running foot, meaning the length measured along the wall, regardless of how tall or deep the unit is. Once you know the run of each wall, you can estimate a cabinet budget before anyone visits the site.

That makes a floor plan surprisingly useful. A developer's layout already carries a few printed dimensions, and one of them is all this tool needs to unlock every other measurement on the drawing.

Accuracy depends on the reference line you pick. Always calibrate from the longest dimension available, because measurement error shrinks in proportion to the length of the line you start from.

Common questions

Is this accurate enough for a renovation quotation?
It is accurate enough for budgeting and comparing options. Developer floor plans are drawn to structural dimensions, so real measured walls often come out one to three centimetres larger once plaster and finishes are applied. Always confirm with a site measurement before anything is cut or ordered.
Is my floor plan uploaded anywhere?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser. Your floor plan is never sent to a server, never stored, and never seen by anyone else.
What counts as a running foot?
A running foot is one foot measured along the length of a wall or cabinet run. A 3-metre kitchen wall is roughly 9.8 running feet. Cabinet makers quote per running foot because length drives material and labour more than height or depth does.
Can I use a phone photo instead of a PDF?
Yes. Screenshots and photos both work. For the best accuracy, capture the plan square-on rather than at an angle, so the drawing is not distorted, and calibrate from the longest printed dimension you can find.
What if my floor plan has no dimensions printed on it?
You need one known real-world length to calibrate. If nothing is printed, measure a single wall, door width or tile run on site with a tape, then use that as your reference line. Everything else on the plan can be derived from it.
